Maintenance correction edition

ProForm-Maintenance-Reference.pdf | Issued 2026-10-04

This correction supersedes the conflicting instructions in the archived original. It is not certification of every model in the brand list or permission to return equipment to service.

Exact iFIT model instructions override general brand advice

NordicTrack's general UK lubrication article is not authorization for every NordicTrack or ProForm treadmill. The NTL11219.3 and PFTL13113.6 manuals restrict added substances unless authorized. Identify the exact model/revision/ market or obtain documented OEM authorization before retaining interval, quantity, reset or sensor-gap numbers. If lubrication is authorized, its location is between the walking belt and deck, not underneath the deck. Availability of a lubricant kit does not establish compatibility.

Applicability: match model, production year/serial range, market and manual revision. An edition date is not an equipment production year. Where these are unknown, do not infer a numerical lubrication, adjustment, electrical or clinical specification. Restricted service instructions must be obtained through the owner before approval.

Reviewed sources

Model-specific electrical installation and protection

Replace universal 120 V / 15-20 A, no-GFCI and direct-wall-with-no-exceptions rules with the model nameplate, market- specific OEM installation requirements and local electrical rules. Keep the warning against shared power strips, but allow OEM-required approved surge protection; the NTL11219.3 manual requires a compliant surge suppressor. A lamp test does not verify capacity, grounding or loaded voltage. Never bypass required GFCI protection; have an electrician resolve compatibility. Repeated trips require diagnosis, not simply another outlet.

Applicability: match model, production year/serial range, market and manual revision. An edition date is not an equipment production year. Where these are unknown, do not infer a numerical lubrication, adjustment, electrical or clinical specification. Restricted service instructions must be obtained through the owner before approval.

Withdraw unsupported failure predictions and diagnostic limits

The original percentages, 2-6-week failure forecasts, universal 12 A threshold and example 16.8/11.2/6.5/2.8 A values are not OEM acceptance limits. Do not use them to diagnose or certify a machine. Any retained measurement needs a named model/setup, speed, mechanical load, measurement location and instrument; loaded-versus-unloaded current alone does not isolate friction. Replace guaranteed failure or automatic warranty-loss claims with 'may cause damage' or 'may affect coverage.' Touch alone does not prove motor overload. Brushed-DC explanations do not cover AC motors, and not every elliptical uses an actuated brake motor. Withdraw unsourced 'most common failure' rankings as diagnostic authority. Stop use for abnormal behavior and follow the exact OEM diagnostic procedure.

Applicability: match model, production year/serial range, market and manual revision. An edition date is not an equipment production year. Where these are unknown, do not infer a numerical lubrication, adjustment, electrical or clinical specification. Restricted service instructions must be obtained through the owner before approval.

2. STEP-BY-STEP: THE PROFORM BELT SERVICE PROCEDURE

STEP 1: MONTHLY VISUAL CHECK

Inspect the belt for fraying, tearing, or seam separation; check under the motor hood for rubber residue.

STEP 2: LOOSEN & LUBRICATE

Loosen belt tension and apply lubricant under the deck per the standard procedure.

STEP 3: NEVER SURFACE- SPRAY

Apply lubricant only under the deck — never sprayed directly onto the exposed belt.

STEP 4: RETEST TENSION

Re-tighten the belt and retest for smooth, centered tracking.

3. MANUFACTURER-RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE

COMPONENT

PROFORM GUIDANCE

INTERVAL

Walking Belt Inspection

Visually check for fraying, tearing, seam separation, or misalignment. Check under the motor hood for black rubber residue, a sign of friction or misalignment.

Monthly

Walking Belt Lubrication

Apply lubricant under the deck per the standard procedure — never spray it directly onto the exposed belt surface as a “quick fix.”

At least annually; more often under heavy use

Elliptical Care

Lubricate pivot/moving joints per the model manual; wipe sweat contact points after use; dust regularly.

Full bolt/fastener inspection every 3–6 months

Console & Vents

Clean with a cloth dampened in mild cleaner, never sprayed directly on the console; vacuum vent/fan covers to prevent overheating.

Ongoing, per usage

PRO TIP: WHEN IN DOUBT, DON’T GUESS THE LUBRICANT

• ProForm sells its own matched Treadmill Maintenance Kit rather than leaving lubricant choice to guesswork — a sign they don’t want generic products used. We stock OEM-equivalent 100% silicone lubricant for exactly this reason.

4. COMMON PROFORM FAILURE POINTS

OBSERVED SYMPTOM

LIKELY CAUSE

RISK IF IGNORED

RECOMMENDED ACTION

Touchscreen Frozen or Unresponsive

iFIT software fault or lost Wi-Fi connection.

No functional workout tracking, but not a safety issue.

Firmware update or factory reset via Settings > Wireless Network Mode before assuming hardware failure.

Incline Won’t Respond

Calibration fault; repeated failure suggests a failing incline motor.

Uneven deck angle mid-workout is a fall hazard.

Run the console’s incline calibration menu or button- combo reset first.

Belt Squeaking or Jerky Motion

Misalignment (squeak) or over- tightening (jerky motion).

Accelerated belt and roller wear.

Adjust tension at the hex-key idler roller screws — never spray lubricant directly on the belt as a shortcut.

Treadmill Powers Off Mid-Session

Wiring/sensor fault, motor control board issue, or a burning smell.

Sudden shutdown mid-workout is a fall hazard; electrical fault risk.

Stop use immediately and schedule a certified inspection — this is treated as non-DIY by the manufacturer.

5. WHAT OUR TECHNICIANS CHECK ON EVERY PROFORM VISIT

BELT & DECK CONDITION

Monthly-grade fraying, tracking, and friction- residue inspection

INCLINE CALIBRATION

Full recalibration rather than a surface-level reset

ELECTRICAL & WIRING

Amp draw, connections, and surge protection review
