NordicTrack Error Codes: Complete Reference and What to Do

NordicTrack treadmills and ellipticals display error codes when a fault condition is detected. Older NordicTrack models use "E" codes (E1–E9), while iFIT-connected models (Commercial 1750, 2450, EXP series, and others) use "LS" codes. This reference covers both. We service NordicTrack equipment throughout Tampa Bay.

NordicTrack "E" Error Codes (Older Models)

E1 — No Drive Motor Speed Signal

The motor controller sent power to the drive motor but the speed sensor isn't detecting movement. DIY check: power cycle; inspect the speed sensor bracket — it should be within 5–10mm of the roller magnet. Technician needed if sensor is damaged, wiring harness broken, or MC board failing.

E2 — Incline Motor Fault

The incline motor is not responding or drawing too much current. Check for debris blocking the incline mechanism. See our treadmill incline not working guide for detailed diagnosis.

E3 — Overspeed Detected

The belt moved faster than commanded. Usually indicates a speed sensor issue, MC board problem, or belt slippage. See our treadmill belt slipping guide.

E4 / E5 — Motor Controller Communication

Communication failure between console and motor controller board. Power cycle first. If it persists, the data cable may be loose or the MC board may need replacement.

E6 — Drive Motor Overcurrent

The drive motor is drawing more current than expected. Most common cause: walking belt too tight, too dry, or significantly worn. Address belt condition before suspecting the motor. See our belt condition guide.

E7 — Heart Rate Monitor Signal

Console cannot receive a heart rate signal. Usually a positioning or contact issue — not a mechanical fault requiring repair. No service call needed in most cases.

E8 / E9 — Incline Limit or Calibration

Incline has reached a travel limit or is out of calibration. Try a manual incline reset: power off, manually level the incline to flat, power on and run the calibration routine from the console menu.

NordicTrack "LS" Error Codes (iFIT Models)

LS01 — Speed Sensor Failure

Same underlying issue as E1 on older models. Power cycle first. If it persists, the magnetic speed sensor or its wiring needs inspection. One of the most common LS codes on NordicTrack Commercial 1750 and 2450 models.

LS02 — Drive Motor Overcurrent or Stall

Motor is overloaded or stalled. Belt condition is the first thing to check. If belt is in good condition, the motor or MC board may need replacement.

LS03 — Incline Fault

Incline system failure — same as E2 on older models. Check for obstructions under the front of the treadmill. See our incline not working guide.

LS04 — Console Communication Loss

Console has lost communication with the lower board. Power cycle. If it persists, the data cable between console and lower board may be loose or damaged.

LS05 — iFIT Connectivity

Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connectivity issue affecting the iFIT platform — not a mechanical fault. Check your Wi-Fi network and confirm the iFIT app is current. If the treadmill runs normally without iFIT, this code does not require a service call.

LS06 — Motor Temperature Limit

Drive motor or compartment has reached a temperature limit. Let the treadmill cool for 20–30 minutes. Check that motor compartment vents are clear of lint, dust, and debris. Recurring temperature shutdowns indicate the motor compartment needs professional cleaning.

LS07 / LS08 — Lower Board Failure

Motor controller board fault. These codes typically require a board replacement. We carry NordicTrack-compatible MC boards for the most common Commercial series models.

LS09 / LS10 — Calibration Required

Speed or incline system needs recalibration. Run calibration from Settings on the console with the treadmill on a level surface and no load on the belt. If calibration fails, a technician is needed.

When to Call a Technician

Call 727-512-5120 when any error code returns immediately after a full power cycle, when LS01, LS02, LS07, or LS08 codes persist after basic checks, or when you smell burning from the motor compartment alongside any error code. We diagnose and repair all NordicTrack models in Clearwater, Tampa, St. Petersburg, and all of Tampa Bay.
